SERAS ATHLETES PREPARE FOR SKI SEASON
The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) Snowsports Program for 2010 commenced with a camp at the University of Canberra (UC) on the weekend of the 15th and 16th May.
Run in partnership with NSW Snowsports, the program is designed to focus on the physiological, psychological and personal development of the scholarship holders. The young athletes are drawn from across NSW and represent the disciplines of alpine skiing, freestyle moguls, cross country skiing and snowboarding.
On day one of the camp the athletes were put through a battery of fitness tests by SERAS intern students David Halpin and Joe Northey. Afternoon sessions included a physiotherapy screening with Phil Newman from UC, a RPM cycling class at the UCU Sports and Fitness Centre, and a pool recovery session at the Australian Institute of Sport.
Day two of the camp was devoted to strength and conditioning assessments and programming with SERAS senior intern student David Halpin and core strength and flexibility with SERAS intern student Joe Northey.
The scholarship holders will come together for a second camp in late September after the domestic ski season is completed.
