NSW Snow Sports represents the four major snow disciplines and the Interschools.
NSW Alpine supports the NSWSA by promoting, developing and controlling alpine ski racing. Alpine ski racers in Australia compete mainly in the disciplines of giant slalom (GS) & slalom (SL) races in different resorts. GS has gates that are set at greater distance from each other down the slope (similar to an Interschools course). Whilst SL gates are closer & it tends to be a more technical race. Overseas there’s also Super G & Downhill races.
Races cater for Children (C0 = U10, C1 = U12, C2 = U14), Junior (J1, J2) & Seniors (19 & over) & Masters. NSW ski resorts provide a range of ski racing programs through Perisher Blue Winter Sports Club (www.perisherblue.com.au), Thredbo Ski Racing Club (www.thredboskiracing.com) and Selwyn Snowfields Race & Development Squad (www.selwynsnow.com.au) as do various other independent ski clubs.
NSW Alpine welcomes the assistance of volunteers. Members can also attend general and/or committee meetings. If you’d like to receive, share or advertise information regarding alpine ski racing, email our Publicity Officer to join our mailing list.

Cross-country skiing is a beautiful sport. It incorporates exercise, skill and a spirit of adventure. It takes you away from the crammed slopes to see another side of an alpine world. People keep coming back year after year because there is always something new to learn and enjoy.
Racing is one facet of the sport and in NSW it is mainly based around the Nordic Shelter at Perisher Valley. Races vary from 1km to 42km endurance events and all ages are welcome. Because of its low impact nature, cross-country skiers vary from toddlers through to people in their eighties.
Cross-country skiers can also be people who like to tour the backcountry on skis using marked trails or a compass and finding ungroomed mountain sides to slide some turns.

NSW Freestyle promotes and controls the discipline of Freestyle for the NSW Ski Association. They co-ordinate all events in NSW with the resorts for the National & State event calendar.
Moguls and Aerials are Olympic sports. Training for Moguls can be done at any resort and trained coaches are available.
Aerials have to be supervised and dryland training (ie trampolines, diving and water jumps) is carried out before athletes are accredited to perform on snow.
Freeride adds a new dimension to our sport with acrobatic performances on aerial sites and is designed for more rotational jumps and loops with poles.

| Competition Outline | Alpine skiers(4 per team) and Snowboarders (3 per team) run on Modified Giant Slalom courses, Cross Country is a 3 person relay and Moguls (3 per team) is a "bumps and jumps" course. All courses are set for skiers of Level 3 (Stem Christie) standard or better. |
| Age Limits | The competition is broken into 5 divisions: Division 1: Years 11 & 12; Division 2: Years 9 & 10; Division 3: Years 7 & 8; Division 4: Years 5 & 6; Division 5: Below Year 5 |
| Progress of winning teams | In general, the top five teams from division 1 Moguls, the top three teams from other divisions of Moguls and the top five teams from each division of all other disciplines are invited to compete in the State Championships, however the committee reserves the right to alter these numbers depending on the performance and number of entries. The same number of successful teams from the State Championships are invited to the Australian Interschools Championships. Trophies are awarded to the schools that gain the highest points overall. This means that entering in all four disciplines greatly enhances a school's chances |
